Do you have a jelly roll, a layer cake or some charm squares that are pretty but you just don’t know what to do with them?
Or perhaps you have a collection of pieces of quilting fabrics that are too big, too good and too lovely to throw out, but not big enough for a project on their own?
If so, then we can cut them into 2½” WOF strips, 10” squares or 5” squares and you can come along to one of these workshops and make a “Quilt Top in a Day”!
Leonie has designed a series of one day workshops that will help you use these fabric pieces in a way that makes lovely quilts to either give away or treasure for yourself. Each day will complete (or get very close to completion!) a different quilt top using predominantly pre-cuts or your own collection of strips or squares. You can enrol for one or all of the workshops to make a quilt top – or two or three!
Quilt Top in a Day No.1 – Using Jelly rolls
3 September, 2021 – 9:30 – 3:00pm
Cost $100
Jelly rolls are pretty, attractive to quilters because so much of the fiddly cutting has been done for you, but what pattern can you make with them that uses a whole jelly roll to make a decent sized quilt – and do it quickly? Choose one of the two patterns shown and you will have a quilt top that makes a perfect gift. What is more, it can be quilted using straight line quilting for a fast finish.
Each of these takes one jelly roll with the addition of 2 or 3 half metre lengths of contrasting material. The Diamond pattern also uses a 900 triangle quilters ruler, available from the shop.
Quilt Top in a Day No.2 – Using Layer Cakes
10 September, 2021 9:30 – 3:00pm
Cost $100
Layer cakes can contain hidden surprises – a package of 10” squares of a range of fabric – 42 of them. By adding a simple contrast fabric, we can end up with a queen bed topper using just one layer cake – another perfect gift quilt that is easy to finish with straight line quilting. The contrast took 1.5m of fabric for this quilt.
Quilt Top in a Day No.3 – Using Charm Squares
17 September, 2021 9:30 – 3:00pm
Cost $100
Charm square packs offer the chance to make a quilt with a scrappy feel of having lots of different patterns without the need to worry about coordinating colours as the designer has done that for you – all the squares in a charm pack will definitely go together! One charm pack with two contrasting fabrics will make a throw or lap sized quilt, while two charm packs will make a full queen-sized bed quilt (but will take a bit more than a day to complete!). Again, a quilt that has a lot of the cutting pre-done and will make an attractive quilt to gift – or keep for yourself!
