Focus: Machine Pieced Patchwork using rotary cutters and rulers, and sewing techniques on your machine. This course can be completed without hand sewing or templates.
No-one quite knows why, but in 1982 American President Ronald Reagan declared September National Sewing Month to celebrate an artistic practice that encompasses so many others, and honour the contribution sewing makes to the homes, clothing and comfort of lives all year round. Following this initiative, many branches of the industry have taken up and aspect of sewing in September to promote a product or activity. The third Saturday in September became National Jelly Roll Day when Moda introduced jelly rolls, and supplied free patterns to complement them.
This 20th September, join me at Canberra Sewing where we will use a Moda patterns to create a one of a kind beauty that will be a perfect gift or family treasure. Canberra Sewing has a selection
of Jelly rolls and complementary fabrics to use as accents or backgrounds.
Choose one of the two patterns to work on for the day. Both patterns will be available in the workshop.
Level of skill required for this workshop: No previous experience with machine piecing required; suitable for beginners and those wanting to expand or review their skills or learn a design that can be completed relatively quickly.
This workshop will develop the following skills:
• Working with pre-cut fabrics
• Cutting fabric accurately using a rotary cutter, ruler and mat
• Setting up your machine for piecing fabric
• Stitching an accurate ¼” seam
• Pressing and ironing fabric
• Matching seams for a perfect join
