Focus of this workshop: Machine Applique

Learn to use your machine to produce different styles of applique on your machine – raw edge, blanket stitch, zigzag, satin stitch and invisible on day one, then go on to construct a table runner of your choice using applique on the second day of this course.  Choose to make a runner that suits your decorative style in this day that will show you how to applique on your machine using your choice of techniques, while allowing you the freedom to choose what you wish to applique onto your runner.

The runner is constructed in smaller parts so that you are able to choose the words and pictures that you want to include, and change the length to suit your preferences. You could also choose to present it as a wall hanging or to make individual place mats to add to your table decorations.

Level of skill required for this workshop: Suitable for beginners and all levels of experience with machine applique. You will need to be familiar with your machine, knowing how to thread it, change the bobbin, stitches and the presser foot.

This workshop will develop the following skills:

• Understanding machine applique techniques using clear polyester and decorative embroidery threads
• Choosing an appropriate machine applique technique for the task from satin stitch, buttonhole and raw edge
• Setting up and working with raw edge applique for a durable finish
• Using straight line quilting to consolidate the layers of a runner
• How to apply binding to finish a project.

What we will be doing in the workshop:
Day 1, am: Will focus on the techniques and you will be provided with materials to use to make a sample.
Day 1, pm: Setting up your own materials ready to start you own applique
Day 2: Working on your applique and learning now to put it together with batting, backing and quilting ready to bind it.

You will be provided with patterns for the letters and a variety of pictures to use for applique in the class. If you have pictures you wish to use, please bring them with you.
