Thread Painting Kookaburras with Leonie – 1st & 8th May 2026

Time: 10:00am – 2:30pm (9:30 setup) each day

Focus of this workshop: Managing free motion quilting to embellish and add to an image to create your own art quilt.

Have fun adding stitching to a printed fabric to embellish and create your own art quilt. This two-day workshop will look at setting up your machine, choosing thread, managing appropriate batting and controlling your stitch length to express your creativity in your own unique way. We will also look at techniques to add embellishments you create with
thread and your machine on the second workshop day.

The Kookaburra print, batting, backing and threads are available for purchase at Canberra Sewing.

Level of skill required for this workshop: Suitable for beginners and experienced quilters wanting to refresh or expand their skills.

This workshop will develop the following skills:
• Setting up your sewing machine for free motion quilting and embroidery
• Choosing batting, thread and colour placement for thread painting
• Controlling stitch length for accurate placement
• Choosing and marking pattern lines for stitching
