Jelly Roll Rug with Leonie – Saturday 19 September 2026
$135.00
Date: Saturday 19th September 2026
Time: 10am – 2:30pm (9:30am setup)
Focus of this workshop: Manipulating Jelly rolls to make your choice of a rug or placemats.
No-one quite knows why, but in 1982 American President Ronald Reagan declared September National Sewing Month to celebrate an artistic practice that encompasses so many others, and honour the contribution sewing makes to the homes, clothing and comfort of lives all year round.
Following this initiative, the third Saturday in September became National Jelly Roll Day.
This 19th September, join me at Canberra Sewing where we will use a Jelly Roll to create a one-of-a-kind rug OR set of placemats to celebrate the diversity of jelly rolls, and the long held craft of using strips of material to make beautiful, decorative and useful items for our homes.
Level of skill required for this workshop: Suitable for beginners and experienced quilters wanting to refresh their skills.
This workshop will develop the following skills:
• Sorting and balancing the colours of your jellyroll to suit your project.
• Setting up your machine for straight and zig-zag stitching.
• Using your walking foot where necessary.
• Starting and finishing your work.
A link to the materials list will be sent in your acknowledgement email.
